The Story

While the tryzub is Ukraine's official coat of arms, it is technically referred to as the Small Coat of Arms.

This design, by illustrator Katya Akvarelna, is a modern vision of the unfulfilled dream of a Great Coat of Arms.

The 1996 Constitution of Ukraine states that the Great Coat of Arms must include three key historical symbols: the tryzub, the lion, and the cossack.  In this artistic concept, the two figures stand as shield-bearers, guarding the central tryzub.
